Recap: Oklahoma State vs. Kansas

The Sports Network

Byron Eaton had 26 points, including a game- winning free throw with 12.6 second to play as Oklahoma State upended fourth- ranked Kansas, 61-60, at Gallagher-Iba Arena.

Obi Muonelo added 12 points, including three three-pointers for the Cowboys (14-12, 5-7 Big 12), who have won three in a row.

"It was a great game to be a part of," said Oklahoma State coach Sean Sutton. "I thought both teams really competed hard and played outstanding defense at both ends of the court. I'm really proud of our guys the way that they fought from start to finish."

Darnell Jackson had 16 points and 10 rebounds while Brandon Rush added 12 points and six boards for the Jayhawks (24-3, 9-3), who have dropped two of their last three games.

"I thought they played good defense and better offense than us," said Kansas coach Bill Self. "But we stunk, and you can credit that to OSU and a large part of that to the crowd. We didn't play with much poise. I really feel that OSU played really well. I thought Eaton obviously had a fabulous game."

Trailing the Cowboys by nine points halfway through the second half, the Jayhawks came storming back to take the lead as a 19-4 run was capped on a Rush jumper with 3:24 to play for a 58-54 advantage. Rush scored 10 points during the surge.

However, Kansas was unable to get a basket for almost three minutes and Oklahoma State took a 60-58 lead on a Marcus Dove three-pointer with a bit over a minute to play.

Jackson drained a clean look from the right side to tie the contest at 60 with 42 seconds to play.

Eaton, though, was fouled as he drove the lane with 12.6 seconds to play and he hit one of his two free throws to give Oklahoma State a 61-60 lead.

Rush had a chance to give the Jayhawks the lead on the last possession of the game, but his weak shot from the left side fell short as time expired.

Trailing by three points early in the first half, the Cowboys took the lead with seven unanswered points and held a 10-6 advantage on a pair of free throws from Eaton a bit over seven minutes in.

The Jayhawks kept the game close for the next several minutes and took a 21-18 lead thanks to five straight points, with the last two coming on a pair of Jackson free throws with less than eight minutes left in the first half.

A three from Eaton gave Oklahoma State a 26-23 lead and Muonelo drained a trey in the final moments of the half to give the Cowboys a 36-32 lead at the break.

A 10-2 run from Oklahoma State early in the first half built the teams lead to nine points as Muonelo buried a three with just over 13 minutes to play for a 46-37 lead.
